Tahukah anda negara kita sangat bergantung kepada negara luar dalam bekalan biji benih terutama sayuran berdaun? Malaysia mengimport 90 peratus biji benih termasuk kesemua benih hibrid adalah diimport dari pembekal utama dari China, Thailand, Taiwan dan Jepun dengan nilai import sebanyak RM67 juta setahun.

Hal ini bermakna industri biji benih tempatan hanya mampu membekalkan 10 peratus sahaja bekalan biji benih.

Masalah tersebut tidak menjamin sekuriti sumber makanan memandangkan biji benih atau bahan tanaman memainkan peranan penting dalam kelestarian sektor pertanian.

Disebabkan itu, Institut Penyelidikan dan Kemajuan Pertanian Malaysia (MARDI) komited menjalankan Program Pengeluaran Biji Benih dan Penentusahan Kualiti bertujuan untuk mengeluarkan benih dan bahan tanaman asas berkualiti hasil penyelidikannya selain membangunkan inovasi serta pengetahuan berkaitan teknologi biji benih. MARDI Hosted Workshop on Genebank Operations & Advanced Learning (GOAL) for Genebank Management 2017

MARDI through the Genebank and Seed Centre (GB) and Corporate Communication and Quality Centre (CC) have successfully organized a workshop on Genebank Operations and Advanced Learning (GOAL) for Genebank Management 2017 from 31st July to 4th August 2017 at Tan Sri Mohamad Jamil Seminar Room, MARDI Serdang. The workshop was funded by the Crawford Fund, Australia to develop and enhance capacity building in genebank management.

The workshop has brought together 28 local and international participants from Asia Pacific region and 8 trainers from MARDI, Crawford Fund, Global Crop Diversity Trust (GCDT), Bioversity International (Malaysia Office) and Department of Agriculture Malaysia (DOA).

The workshop was officiated by the YBrs. Dr Mohamad Roff bin Mohd Noor (Deputy Director General of MARDI).
